Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have lost out in the race to sign Dinamo Zagreb starlet Alen Halilovic, who has confirmed that an agreement is in place for him to join Barcelona.

The 17-year-old, who has already made three appearances for Croatia’s senior national team, has signed a five-year deal with the Catalan giants, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

They also report that Barcelona have paid €10m - plus add-ons - for the gifted left-footed playmaker.

Halilovic confirmed the news via his Instagram account, posting the message: “Thanks Dinamo Zagreb for everything!!My first club and biggest love!!Now is time to move on to Barcelona.”

Compared to both his compatriot Luka Modric and future teammate Lionel Messi, the deal represents a huge coup for Barcelona.

Fierce rivals Real Madrid were also keen on the teenager, but Barcelona won the battle for his signature after convincing his family that his development was best served at the Camp Nou.

Halilovic could, however, start his Barcelona career in the club’s B team, where the likes of Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Messi all first emerged.
