The dreams of young Hoffenheim fans everywhere were comprehensively shattered this weekend.

While their team were in electric form to plunder six goals past a hapless Wolfsburg at Rhein-Neckar-Arena, their mascot literally lost his head to reveal that he is not a moose at all but is, in fact, a human being.

Such a shocking revelation occurred after 42 minutes of their Bundesliga clash on Sunday afternoon.

After French striker Anthony Modeste had made it 4-1 just prior to half-time, the home players gathered by the corner flag to celebrate.

Clearly enthused by his team's success, Hoffenheim's mascot - named Hoffi, apparently - understandably wanted to join in.

In all the excitement, however, he evidently forgot to look where he was going and tumbled over the advertising hoardings in hilarious fashion - losing his head and antlers in the process.

Watch footage of the hilarious mascot fail above - with thanks to 101 Great Goals for bringing it to our attention.
