Warwickshire County Cricket Club has confirmed that England batsman Jonathan Trott will start the 2014 domestic season with the Bears in a two-day friendly against Gloucestershire at Edgbaston on 1 April.
Warwickshire return from their pre-season tour of Barbados on 25 March, and Trott (32) is set to play in the friendly against Gloucestershire and the subsequent First Class fixture with Oxford MCCU at The Parks on 7-9 April. The Bears then begin their 2014 LV= County Championship campaign at Edgbaston against Sussex on Sunday 13 April.
Dougie Brown, Warwickshire CCC Director of Cricket, said: “Everyone at Edgbaston will be thrilled to see Jonathan return to training after the Club’s pre-season tour of Barbados, and take to the field at Edgbaston in the 2014 season.
“Having met recently, he looks in great shape and is certainly hungry to score plenty of runs for Warwickshire. He’s been a crucial member of the England set up for nearly five years and I am certain he will be back as England's number 3 in the near future.”
Trott is Warwickshire’s current beneficiary, and he joined the Club ahead of the 2003 season, scoring a century on debut against Sussex. To date he has scored 14,053 First Class runs at an average of 45.18, including 33 hundreds, but is also the Bears’ leading run scorer in T20 history with 1,871 runs at an average of 40.67.
He matched his century on debut feat in his first game for England in 2009, when he made 119 in the fifth and final Test of the Ashes Series against Australia at The Oval. He has since won 49 Test and 68 ODI caps with England.
Jonathan Trott, said: “I’ve been overwhelmed with the kind messages of support from players, coaches and fans over the last few months, and I’m really looking forward to joining up with Warwickshire ahead of the new season.
“We’ve got a strong squad that’s capable of challenging for trophies in all competitions, and I’m determined to play a big role and hopefully contribute to more success for the Bears in 2014 and beyond.”
Trott is likely to be joined in the Bears’ start to the LV= County Championship by fellow England internationals Ian Bell and Boyd Rankin as well as England Lions players Chris Woakes, Varun Chopra and Chris Wright.
