Vietnamese footballer Tran Dinh Dong has been handed a 28-game ban by the Vietnamese FA after his horror tackle left Nguyen Anh Hung facing a year out of the game with a broken leg.

The 26-year-old, who plies his trade for Song Lam Nghe An, launched two-footed into a tackle near the touchline with his opponent, leaving him on the floor writhing in agony.

Astonishingly, the referee in the game only cautioned Tran Dinh Dong, but Vietnamese football's ruling body moved swiftly to dole out the heavy punishment.

"The punishment is meant to be a warning to players throughout the nation, where violent behaviour on the field has gradually become more popular,” said the VFF in a statement.
