Former superstar and current WWE commentator John 'JBL' Layfield has said that he hopes CM Punk will 'come back' to the ring.

35-year-old Punk - real name Phillip Jack Brooks - has traditionally been one of the biggest names in the professional wrestling business in recent years, featuring in a number of the WWE's biggest storylines, showcases and pay-per-view events.

However, he has not been seen by fans on-screen since January, with his enthusiastic hometown supporters in Chicago bitterly disappointed when he did not appear at Allstate Arena on Raw this past Monday night.

Despite the mystery surrounding Punk's apparent sabbatical, JBL evidently wishes the best for his former opponent and hopes to see him come back whilst insisting that he does not have any facts to share on the situation.

"I don’t know any facts on CM Punk - I had the honor of wrestling Punk in his first main events in WWE, including a cage match in Madison Square Garden," he wrote yesterday on his blog.

"I have always enjoyed Punk and being around him, I certainly wish him the best-hope he comes back, but whatever happens my best to him."

With Wrestlemania - the WWE's biggest annual event  - now just a matter of weeks away in New Orleans, it appears that the situation with Punk is no closer to being resolved.
