Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Manchester City right-back Micah Richards, according to the Metro.
Richards has reportedly been told by Citizens boss Manuel Pellegrini that he will be allowed to leave the club at the end of the season.
The 25-year-old has found games hard to come by this season as he has fallen behind Pablo Zabaleta in the pecking order.
Brendan Rodgers is said to be a long-term admirer of Richards and even tried to lure the defender to Anfield in the January transfer window.
Manchester City rejected a loan bid from Liverpool for Richards in January - but are now more receptive to letting the Englishman leave the Etihad Stadium.
Rodgers has identified his back four as Liverpool's major weakness this season, so a player as versatile as Richards will be a major boost to his defensive options.
The potential move will also allow Richards, who has played just two Premier League games so far this season, to get his career back on track.
