The number 25 will forever be displayed above the home ice of the Calgary Flames after Joe Nieuwendyk saw his old jersey number raised up to the rafters on Friday night.
In a ceremony at the Scotiabank Saddledome, the Canadian and his wife and children plus thousands of Flames fans watched in awe as the image of a much younger Nieuwendyk slowly lifted into the air.
During his speech, Nieuwendyk was thankful to all associated with the organization and he recalled their triumphant 1989 season in which they went all the way and won the Stanley Cup.
Executed with class, the ceremony was a special moment that will live long in the memories of all in attendance.
