Diego Costa emerges as Milan target

Chelsea and Arsenal appear to face a fight to sign Diego Costa, with Corriere dello Sport reporting that AC Milan are interested in the Atletico Madrid star.

The Italian newspaper suggests that Costa is at the top of the Serie A outfit's wishlist, with a potential move for the player subject to the future of controversial frontman Mario Balotelli.

Brazilian-born Costa has been in sensational form so far this season, boosting Atletico's unlikely title charge with 21 goals in just 26 La Liga appearances.

The former Valladolid man even made his long-awaited international bow for his adopted Spain during their narrow friendly win over Italy on Wednesday evening.

Given his electric form in the final third, transfer interest in Costa has been inevitably high, with Chelsea and Arsenal - as well as surprise title rivals Liverpool - all having been linked with the formidably physical striker in recent times.

Chelsea, who have the chance to extend their four-point lead at the top of the Premier League as they face Tottenham at Stamford Bridge this evening, are widely expected to be in the market for a new striker during the summer with Jose Mourinho evidently requiring an upgrade on the stuttering trio of Samuel Eto'o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba.

Similarly Arsenal's need for a new forward is all too obvious, with Olivier Giroud struggling to replicate his stellar early season form, Nicklas Bendtner set to leave the club and rumours persisting concerning the future of Lukas Podolski.

Both of those aforementioned sides have also been linked with Balotelli - something that could prove pivotal in determining Costa's next destination.

AC Milan have struggled badly in Serie A at times this season and, although they have improved somewhat since club legend Clarence Seedorf replaced Massimiliano Allegri in the managerial dugout at the San Siro, it seems questionable that they would be able to convince £32 million-rated Costa to join them - even in the event that Balotelli does depart.

Chelsea and Arsenal fans - would you choose Costa over Balotelli? Would you like to see your club sign either striker? Have your say below!
