Inter Milan will battle it out with Liverpool to sign Barcelona outcast Martin Montoya.

Radio station talkSPORT believe Inter Milan’s sporting director Piero Ausilio travelled to Spain at the beginning of the week to discuss the possibility of Montoya moving to Serie A at the end of the season.

The Barcelona full-back, who has made 14 appearances this season, was reportedly keen on rejecting the likes of Liverpool and Inter Milan to commit his long-term future to the Catalan giants.

However Montoya may decide to make a dramatic U-turn and ask for a move away from the Camp Nou if Inter Milan can offer the Spaniard regular first-team football.

Montoya has found games hard to come by at Barcelona due to the form of Dani Alves.

Barcelona believe Montoya will sign a deal to stay at the La Liga champions until 2018, however Inter Milan have not given up hope of enticing the right-back to Italy in time for the start of the 2014/14 campaign.

Montoya is one of a number of defenders Inter Milan are looking to sign in the summer - with Bacary Sagna and Patrice Evra also said to be on Walter Mazzarri's transfer wish-list.
