Arsenal & Spurs XI v Liverpool & Man Utd XI - who wins? (7)

Defensive midfield

Football News

North London: Mathieu Flamini

North West: Steven Gerrard

Bringing back Flamini was a shrewd piece of business from Arsene Wenger. Manchester United don't necessarily have a specialist in the position with Marouane Fellaini the closest thing they have to that. Spurs have Sandro who is an excellent tackler and distributor, but he has had his injury problems.

That leaves Steven Gerrard out on his own. The iconic midfielder has slotted seamlessly into his new role, and while he can't offer all the protection his defence needs, his distribution from deep is pretty special.
