Paris Saint-Germain star Yohan Cabaye has revealed that he wanted to join Arsenal last summer, reports the Daily Star.

The French midfielder was heavily linked with a move to north London, however a move failed to materialse and he stayed at Newcastle United.

Cabaye did eventually get a transfer away from St James' Park in January, but moved to Ligue 1 moneybags PSG.

And now, having played a key role for the French champions in recent weeks, Cabaye has admitted that he wanted to work under Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

Speaking to reporters, Cabaye said: "I had wanted to play under Arsene Wenger last summer but unfortunately that was not the case."

Arsenal fans were rewarded with the signing of German playmaker Mesut Ozil, but it's a case of what could have been with Cabaye.

The midfielder had a great first half of the season with Newcastle and is now continuing his fine form in Paris.

Arsenal meanwhile will be in great spirits after beating Tottenham at White Hart Lane yesterday. An early Thomas Rosicky strike secured all three points for the Gunners in the north London derby.
