David Moyes hailed as ‘a football genius’

Liverpool fans must be feeling pretty good today after Sunday’s 3-0 humiliation of Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The fact Liverpool won wasn’t so much of a surprise, many had the Reds as favourites going into the match, but the manner of the destruction certainly was.

Even so, one group of Liverpool fans were prepared for the mauling, bringing along a “David Moyes is a football genius” banner for the exact kind of thumping that United were to suffer.

Steven Gerrard scored twice from the penalty spot - missing another as well - while Luis Suarez also found the target to hand the Anfield club a comprehensive result over their fiercest rivals.

Having been second best to United for much of the Sir Alex Ferguson era, it must feel especially sweet to get one over United in their first match back at Old Trafford since his departure.

Having said that, the result heaps further misery on beleaguered boss David Moyes. The United manager is stumbling from one shocking scoreline to another, although this was almost certainly the lowest point of the campaign so far.

Ferguson appealed to United supporters to back Moyes whatever happens - he must be testing their patience after this latest defeat.

At least he’s got fans somewhere though, even if they’re not at Old Trafford.
