It's a brave and arrogant man who drops the Spanish national captain from the biggest club in Spain.
It's no surprise that Jose Mourinho decided to stamp his authority by dropping Casillas after he recovered from a hand injury in January 2013. It was a surprise to see Carlo Ancelotti fail to reinstate him in the summer.
Now Casillas is earning £165,000-a-week to sit on the bench week-in week-out.
He is yet to make an appearance in the league this season but has been blessed with time on the pitch during the cup competitions.
