Liverpool have been handed a transfer boost in their pursuit of Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno.

The 21-year-old has impressed in La Liga this season, alerting both the Reds and Real Madrid about his potential ability at their respective clubs.

And, his agent is happy to talk up the possibility of a move, suggesting his club might be willing to do business for below the £25million minimum fee release clause in his contract.

"Yes, Napoli presented an offer in January, but it was not seen as big enough. The interest of Real Madrid? Nothing has been done and my client is concentrating on Sevilla," agent Javier Moya told AS.

"Sevilla are willing to negotiate, but on their conditions. I’m not saying he can only leave there for his £25m release clause fee."

Whether that encourages Brendan Rodgers to make a move for the defender remains to be seen, but Liverpool are short in the left-back position.

Jose Enrique is out indefinitely through injury at Anfield, whilst Aly Cissokho will be leaving the Reds at the end of the season when his loan expires.

England international Glen Johnson has occasionally filled in when needed this term, but recently capped Spaniard Moreno would be a long-term solution for Liverpool in the position.

Competition could come from Los Blancos however, and Carlo Ancelotti has also been linked with a move to bring Ashley Cole to the Santiago Bernabeu in recent days.
