Manchester United have joined Arsenal in the race to sign Schalke’s Julian Draxler.

The Daily Star suggest representatives of Manchester United were in Germany on Friday night to run the rule over the highly sought-after 20-year-old.

Draxler put in a fantastic performance in front of Manchester United’s scouts by laying on an assist for Schalke teammate Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

News of Manchester United’s interest in Draxler will be a major blow to Arsenal’s hopes of landing the wonderkid in the summer.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wanted to sign the midfielder in January - but failed to meet his £37million release clause.

The north London side’s reluctance to meet Schalke’s demands could prove costly if Manchester United decide to splash the cash on the playmaker.

Arsenal are also expected to go back in for Draxler in the summer, which could make for an interesting transfer battle between the two Premier League giants.

Both sides will get another chance to see Draxler in action tomorrow as the German international is expected to start against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.
