The Chicago Blackhawks are among six teams to be nominated for the Sports Team of the Year award. The award, part of the Sports Business Awards, celebrates teams with excellence in sport and following in the community.

The 'Hawks are joined by the Seattle Seahawks, Boston Red Sox, Golden State Warriors, Portland Timbers and the USA Ski and Snowboard Association.

Of the five teams nominated from domestic leagues, the Blackhawks, Seahawks and Red Sox were all crowned champions of their sports.

The Timbers made it to the Conference Finals before being defeated by Real Salt Lake.

The Golden State Warriors lost in the Conference Semi-Finals to eventual Western champion, San Antonio Spurs.

According to NBC Sports, the Blackhawks lead the NHL in attendance with an average of 22,000 fans at the United Center. That is an increase of 10,000 from 2007 when only an average of 12,000 saw 'Hawks games.
