Manchester United and Liverpool have been given encouragement in their pursuit over Lazio starlet Keita Balde Diao as his agent indicated a willingness for a move to the Premier League.
According to Talksport, both the Old Trafford club and their Anfield counterparts have been tracking the Spanish for some time with a view to making a move. Now both Manchester United and Liverpool have been given some encouragement in this interest by the 19-year-old's agent.
"It is normal to receive the attentions of some foreign team every weekend. I know of appreciation, but there has still been no direct contact with me." Ulisse Savini is quoted as telling TMW in the Talksport report.
"I think Keita would play in English football in the future - I can see him much better there than in Germany, for example. And probably in his head, the aspiration of playing in the Premier League is important."
While neither Manchester United or Liverpool are in great need of a new centre-forward, Keita would provide a shrewd investment in the future, as he has shown glimpses this season. He has already scored four Serie A goals in only six starts and has shown himself to have the right mentality to perform at the highest level.
Manchester United could include the former Barcelona youth star in what is tipped to be a significant summer spending spree, with a £150million kitty being mooted. David Moyes has a more pressing need to reinforce in defence and midfield, but more attackers may be needed as reports have brought into question the futures of Javier Hernandez and Robin van Persie.
Liverpool have the most potent attacking force in the Premier League in the form of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge, so they are well set for strikers. However, there is not a great deal of back-up if either of those two get injured and, as looks likely to happen, a Champions League campaign next season will expose any quad shortages.
