Manchester United are closing in on the signing of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho.

The Daily Star suggests the Premier League champions have launched a £25million bid for the 21-year-old ace.

David Moyes is keen on strengthening his midfield options in the summer and has identified Carvalho as the man to solve his side's major weakness.

Carvalho is enjoying his first major campaign in Portugal after returning from a loan spell in Belgium with Cercle Brugge.

Serie A giants Inter Milan are also said to be in the race for Carvalho, however Manchester United's strong relationship with Sporting Lisbon could see them seal a move for the Portuguese international.

Manchester United have completed business with Sporting Lisbon in the past - with the former club having bought Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani from the Portuguese giants in 2003 and 2007 respectively.

Moyes was also said to be weighing up a move for Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani but he has reportedly rejected a move to Old Trafford.
