Aston Villa manager David O´Leary insists Danish international defender Martin Laursen´s knee problem is not career threatening, but is closing in on his likely replacement Wilfred Bouma.

Villa are optimistic they have beaten off the challenge of Liverpool for the services of the PSV Eindhoven player who will cost around £4million.

O´Leary told PA Sport: "Martin is off to America on the day of the West Ham game (September 12). We will know then what is required when he sees the surgeon out there. But I must stress that it is not a career-threatening situation. Martin will be able to play again. It is not make or break."
