Pittsburgh Penguins Forward James Neal has been fined $5,000 for cross-checking Detroit Red Wings Forward Luke Glendening.

The incident occurred with 5:19 left in the second period of the game on Thursday night at the Joe Louis Arena.

Neal will now have to pay $5,000 which will go towards the Players Emergency Assistance fund.

The Red Wings went on to win 5-4 in a thrilling encounter in which Detroit needed an overtime winner to get past Pittsburgh.

It gave Pittsburgh their third loss in five games as they prepare to face the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night.

The win over the Penguins was the Red Wings second straight win and puts them in good stead for two straight games against the Minnesota Wild.
