Arsenal & Chelsea target gets Juventus offer

Arsenal and Chelsea will have to move fast if they are to have any chance of signing Bayern Munich star Mario Mandzukic, as Juventus have put down an offer for him already and are close to an agreement.

According to TMW, Antonio Conte is keen to have the Croatian striker move to Turin and the Juventus owners have already made major progress in talks with him. However, there were reports last week that claimed Mandzukic's agent was in England and was speaking with both Arsenal and Chelsea.

The Serie A champions may be an attractive prospect but they will struggle to match the wages on offer at Emirates Stadium and Stamford Bridge, not to mention Mandzukic would likely get more playing time at either Premier League side.

The Gunners have been over-reliant on Olivier Giroud this season as other options in attack, Nicklas Bendtner and Yaya Sanogo, have not been viable. Arsene Wenger's failure to recruit in the centre-forward position has been a major criticism of his side this season, especially as they have been challenging for the title and a world class striker could have made the difference by now.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have an abundance of options in that area but all three of Samuel Eto'o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba have failed to deliver consistently when given the opportunity. As with Arsenal, Jose Mourinho's side are challenging for the Premier League title and a striker scoring consistently could have already given them the edge in the title race.

Mandzukic has been a regular scorer since moving to Bayern from Wolfsburg two years ago, but his future has been in doubt since January. It was confirmed that Borussia Dortmund's star forward Robert Lewandowski would be moving to the Allianz Arena on a Bosman free transfer and is expected to be inserted as first choice ahead of the Croatia international.
