Juan Mata has warned Manchester City that Manchester United are going into the derby game tomorrow full of confidence after back-to-back victories.

The Red Devils have endured a disastrous season to date, but look to have found a semblance of form going into the showdown at the Etihad Stadium.

They pulled of a rousing 3-0 win against Olympiakos last Wednesday to book a place in the Champions League quarter-finals, and followed that up with a 2-0 victory over West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.

Now Manchester United face a crucial showdown against rivals City, and Mata believes Manuel Pellegrini's side had better watch out because they are full of confidence, especially when playing on the road.

"The team has got confidence and now there is an exciting challenge ahead: our derby against City on Tuesday,” he wrote on his blog on

“It will be the first one for me and I’m looking forward to it. You can already feel in the streets that special atmosphere.

“Moreover, the next weekend we will play in Old Trafford again, this time Aston Villa. We must get better results at home; in the away games we are the best team so far.”

Manchester United currently sit in 7th place, 11 points behind Arsenal who occupy the fourth and final Champions League qualification spot.

Manchester City meanwhile are well in the title race, and victory on Tuesday will put them just three points behind leaders Chelsea with two games in hand.
