WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather has posted a video on Instagram showing him training at four o'clock in the morning ahead of his May 3 bout against Argentina's Marcos Maidana.

The 37-year-old, who is renowned for training in the small hours prior to his fights, was filmed in focus mode on the punchbag. Mayweather accompanied the short video with the caption: "Working overtime. 4am bag work".

Mayweather, despite being the overwhelming favourite to beat Maidana at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, knows he cannot risk losing his unbeaten record by becoming complacent. The pound-for-pound king is subsequently putting in the extra hours to ensure that he enters the fight in top condition.

Last week, the American boxer posted a video showing off his remarkable jump rope skills, and on this evidence it seems certain that Mayweather will successfully defend his title when he comes up against the South American.
