Barcelona's pulsating 4-3 victory over Barcelona last night was reportedly watched by a television audience approaching 400m people, with La Liga's showpiece clash possessing the history and star power to make the world stop and take notice.

Lionel Messi once again proved he is the man for the big occasion with a hat-trick that displayed nerves of steel, with a familiar supporting cast including Cristiano Ronaldo, Andres Iniesta and Karim Benzema all playing their part in arguably the best match played all season long across the continent.

Both teams were clearly not without flaws though, with defensive deficiencies in particular ruthlessly exposed throughout as Javier Mascherano and Dani Carvajal in particular struggled to prove their worth at the Bernabeu.
