Total debt: $374million

Growing financial problems have forced Valencia to part with a number of their star players in recent years, prompting a significant dip in form on the pitch.

The Spanish club used to be regulars in the Champions League, but have now dropped out of contention in La Liga, having been overtaken by clubs like Real Sociedad and Atletico Madrid in recent years.

Another issue that continues to hang over them is the suspension of the construction of the club's new stadium, which was originally due to be completed in 2009. Valencia remain hopeful of moving into their new home by the start of next season.
