Manchester United appear to face a potential battle with Chelsea for the signing of Adam Lallana.
According to the website of respected Sky Italia journalist Gianluca di Marzio, the Blues - who currently hold a three-point advantage ahead of closest rivals Manchester City at the summit of the Premier League - have a strong interest in the Southampton midfielder who has impressed so wonderfully in the top-flight this season.
Such news will presumably disappoint Manchester United, with the defending Premier League champions having also been heavily linked with a swoop for Lallana as well as teammate and compatriot Luke Shaw in recent weeks.
Given how well the player has performed at St. Mary's under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino this season, it should certainly not come as a surprise to Saints fans to hear that Lallana is beginning to attract serious attention from rival clubs.
Manchester United - who slumped to another dreadful defeat at the hands of local rivals Manchester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday night - are in the midst of an extremely difficult season that had initially appeared as if it may be turning a corner in previous weeks.
With David Moyes, providing he is able to keep his job, of course, expected to be handed the funds to re-invest in his playing squad this summer, a player like Lallana - who has proved to be one of the best midfielders that the Premier League has to offer in recent months - would certainly appear to fit the bill.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho - who is able to call upon the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Andre Schurrle in his own midfield unit - is certainly not short of quality midfield options at Stamford Bridge, but must surely have been impressed by the sort of form shown by €30 million-rated Lallana.
The 25-year-old - who, bar a short loan spell with neighbours Bournemouth back in 2007 has spent his entire career with Southampton and will hope to travel to the World Cup in Brazil with England this summer - has made 31 domestic appearances so far this season, notching eight goals and providing five assists in that time.
