The Dayton Flyers have caused shockwaves throughout the world of college basketball on their advance to the sweet 16. However it is not just on the court that they are a cut above, they are also leading the nation in social media.

'Simply Measured' a social media analytics group have discovered that the Flyers are the most-tweeted about team remaining in the tournament despite not coming from a big conference and being a low-seeded team.

The Flyers, seeded 11th in the south region have already knocked off local rivals Ohio State and heavily favored Syracuse in order to advance.

According to the study, Dayton had over 59,000 mentions in tweets during the tournament so far which is far ahead of the second most tweeted about team, Kentucky with 34,715.

Duke's loss to Mercer in the second round of the tournament was the most tweeted about upset of the competition so far, reaching a peak of 6,284 tweets per minute as Coach K's team bowed out of the tournament.

It appears that Dayton have gathered a few fans on social media during the opening two games of the tournament. Only time will tell if that can help the Flyers continue their hot streak into the latter stages.
