Manchester United 'need a Yaya Toure'

Toni Kroos would be a quality acquisition for Manchester United were they able to recruit the Bayern Munich star, claims former midfielder Owen Hargreaves, although he adds that a player with qualities similar to those possessed by Yaya Toure would add more value to David Moyes’ beleaguered side.

Manchester United have frequently been linked with a move for Kroos as Moyes makes plans to reinforce his midfield in the summer transfer window. Kroos is out of contract at the end of next season, and his future with Bayern Munich remains uncertain.

Hargreaves rates Kroos very highly indeed and, while he believes the Germany international would improve Manchester United, he claims the signing of a player capable of offering greater power is what his former club requires.

“Toni is a brilliant player so he’s bound to have options,” Hargreaves told Manchester Evening News. “He would improve United but he’s not necessarily what they only need. They need power, like Yaya Toure gives City. That’s what they need so Toni wouldn’t be the solution on his own.”

Manchester United will have the opportunity to study Kroos at close quarters on Tuesday night as he travels to Old Trafford with Bayern Munich to contest the first leg of their Champions League last eight tie.

Bayern Munich are considerable favourites to progress into the semi-final, arriving in Manchester having already won the Bundesliga title and with their opponents suffering their worst campaign in decades.
