Chelsea have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Porto full-back Alex Sandro, reports talkSPORT

The Brazilian star, who is just 23-years-old, has achieved great success in Portugal in recent years and could now be heading to the Premier League this summer.

If reports are to believed, Manchester United and now Chelsea have lined the full-back up as a cheaper alternative to Southampton starlet Luke Shaw.

Despite his release clause currently standing at £40 million, it appears that £15m will be enough to secure his signature in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United and Chelsea are both in need of new long term left-backs, with Patrice Evra and Ashley Cole ageing.

The clubs now look set to battle each other in the next market and both David Moyes and Jose Mourinho look ready to tempt Sandro with a Premier League switch.

For now though, both Manchester United and Chelsea will be concentrating on their European quarter-final clashes this week.

The Red Devils take on holders Bayern Munich at Old Trafford tonight, meanwhile Chelsea travel to France to take on Paris Saint-Germain tomorrow evening.
