FIFA announced earlier today that Barcelona have been hit with a two-window transfer ban for breaches rules relating to the international transfer and registration of players aged under 18.
Although the specifics of what they exactly did to receive the heavy sanction from FIFA has not been made clear yet, world football's governing body did confirm that the punishment related to the transfer of ten minors in particular.
Barcelona have also been hit with a fine of 450,000 Swiss Francs, while Spanish football's governing body RFEF have also been reprimanded.
This could have huge consequences for various big-name clubs around the world; a major spender in the transfer market has just ben removed - subject to an appeal - opening up a host of opportunities for some to pounce upon. Conversely, a host of big-money deals may have just gone up in smoke because of the sanction.
