Miami Heat superstar LeBron James played a little prank on his followers on April Fool's Day, but despite his best efforts to convince fans that he is due to release a mix-tape he instead ended up on the receiving end of a jibe from rival Dwight Howard.

The slightly tender subject of James' receding hairline has been somewhat of a running joke in the NBA for a few years now, and Howard seemingly couldn't resist bringing it up once again via the medium of his Instagram account.

The internet meme posted by the Houston Rockets center - which can be seen above - features a picture of James from days where he was a bit thicker on top, accompanied by the caption 'April Fools'.

In the accompanying message, Howard said: "I'm losing my hairline. But I thought this was funny. @kingjames."

Four-time MVP James - who, alongside Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade forms the South Florida franchise's 'Big Three' - has helped Miami to once again rise to the top of the Eastern Conference standings at the expense of the struggling Indiana Pacers.

The Heat's 93-83 win over the Toronto Raptors on Monday evening - in which James registered 32 points and eight assists in just under 39 minutes - saw them leapfrog Frank Vogel's men and dramatically boost their quest for a third straight NBA title.

Howard's Rockets, meanwhile, currently sit fourth in the Western Conference, 8.5 games behind Texas rivals the San Antonio Spurs.
