Manchester United: This is why you need William Carvalho

William Carvalho has been watched more than 10 times by Manchester United scouts this season - I wonder if they were in Portugal to see this?

The Portuguese international scored the opening goal in Sporting Lisbon's 3-1 away victory against Pacos de Ferreira on Saturday afternoon, and it was beauty.

The £37m-rated powerhouse centre midfielder looks like just the sort of player United need. Even in this short clip, you can see why he's been compared to Patrick Veira.

And United, lacking a dominant presence in midfield since the departure of Roy Keane, could do with a player capable of injecting a little urgency into David Moyes's squad.

The goal, Carvalho's fourth of the season in the league, was followed up by strikes by Marcos Rojo and Adrien Silva.

And if United scouts were in the attendance, they would have also got another opportunity to take a look at one of their loan stars, Bebe.

The on-form forward found the net again, his ninth of the campaign, and while he's a figure of fun in England, he clearly has the talent to thrive in the Portuguese top flight.

Back to Carvalho, and you can watch his goal in the Sporting victory in the video above...
