Manchester United face Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final, second leg tonight, and team news appears to have been leaked ahead of the clash at the Allianz Arena.

The Daily Mirror reports that Red Devils boss David Moyes is set to drop Rio Ferdinand for the meeting in the German capital, with Chris Smalling set to replace the veteran in a tie finely poised at 1-1. He could play either on the right or in the centre of defence, with Phil Jones in the other position.

Wayne Rooney is also set to start up-front after missing out at the weekend, recovering from the toe injury that he picked up in the first leg at Old Trafford.

Japanese international Shinji Kagawa is also poised to get the nod from the Manchester United manager, playing behind the striker as part of a 4-2-3-1/4-5-1 formation. Antonio Valencia and Danny Welbeck will do their work on the flanks.

Michael Carrick and Darren Fletcher will provide the defensive shield against the Bundesliga giants, whilst David de Gea returns between the stick for one of the biggest games of the season.

Manchester United 'expected' line-up:

De Gea; Jones, Smalling, Vidic, Evra; Carrick, Fletcher; Valencia, Kagawa, Welbeck; Rooney.
