Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle believes German forward Dirk Nowitzki ranks among the 12 greatest players in the game's history.

Speaking on ESPN Radio on Thursday, Carlisle who lead Nowtizki and the Mavericks to the 2010-11 NBA title has made the case that Nowitzki has built a plethora of achievements that makes him undoubtably one of the top players to ever play in the NBA.

Carlisle said in the interview: "I think there's a certain criteria where you can say pretty much for certain that he's one of the top 12 all time"

On Wednesday night, Nowitzki moved up to 10th all time in NBA scoring history, another achievement to add to the incredible list he has amassed throughout his 15-year career.

Carlisle recently reeled off the accomplishments that have cemented his player as one of the best of all time: "there's only been 12 guys that have been 10-time All-Stars, (NBA) Finals MVP and league MVP. So I think that firmly puts him in the top 12. And then getting into the top 10 in all-time scoring validates that even more."

Well how much more does the great german-born player have left in him, well according to his head coach he's far from done: "A lot more great basketball. So I think he's going to pick off a few more guys going up the ladder."

He also continued by saying: "And if you look at his career and the way that he has played his game [and] the fact that his game is such a radically different game than any 7-foot-1 guy that we've ever seen, he's been a game-changer. ... He's been a monster in this game and he'll only continue, I think, to gain respect as time continues to go on."

Nowitzki and the Dallas Mavericks host the Western Conference leading San Antonio Spurs tonight at the American Airlines Center.
