Daniel Amartey was forced to reject a trial at Liverpool because of injury, he has revealed.

The 19-year-old Ghanaian defender is currently plying his trade at Djurgarden in Sweden, and appears to have emerged on the Reds' transfer radar.

But, after being invited to Merseyside to take part in a trial with Liverpool, Amartey was forced to turn the Premier League giants down due to an issue with his hand.

"I was invited for a trial with the club and was supposed to go there," he told Expressen newspaper.

"But I hurt my hand and was forced to reject it. Liverpool is truly a big club and it feels really flattering that they are interested."

Since moving to the Stockholm-based club, Amartey has made 25 league appearances for the club - with the first 23 coming in his debut season last term.

A versatile teenager who can also play in midfield, the U20 international would have added to the growing number of high quality youngsters making their mark at Liverpool.

Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge are both under 25 at Anfield, whilst winger Raheem Sterling is also just 19-years-old.

Joining these house-hold names no longer appears as likely, but Amartey's comments suggest he is keen on Liverpool and hopeful they retain an interest.
