Manchester United are reportedly preparing to launch a bid to capture Marco Reus during the summer transfer window having identified the cultured Borussia Dortmund midfielder among their top targets.

The acquisition of a creative midfielder would appear to be a priority for Manchester United during the next transfer period and, according to Metro, Reus is one of the leading candidates to have been outlined by last season’s Premier League champions.

Manchester United were linked with Reus last summer, as well as the January transfer window, but despite a supposed willingness to spend £35 million, the Old Trafford club were informed by Dortmund that the player was not for sale.

It would appear unlikely that Dortmund will alter their stance in the coming months, given the sizeable contribution that Reus has made this season. The 24-year-old has scored 18 goals and provided 11 assists in all competitions, and he will assume an even greater role of importance following the departure of leading striker Robert Lewandowski.

Reports linking Manchester United with a renewed approach for Reus come following the latest developments regarding Toni Kroos of Bayern Munich. Manchester United have held talks with Bayern about a potential deal for Kroos, but now realise their chances of signing the Germany international are remote.
