Arsenal could get Janmaat at half-price

Arsenal could reportedly recruit Daryl Janmaat at half his market valuation after confirmation from Feyenoord that the Dutch defender will not be signing a contract extension with the Eredivisie club.

The Gunners were provided with something of a boost earlier this week following the statement from Feyenoord and now, according to Metro, Janmaat is likely to be sold in the summer transfer window at far less than the £7 million he is valued at.

Should Arsene Wenger decide to pursue a transfer for the 24-year-old then Arsenal could recruit Janmaat for around £3.5 million given that Feyenoord will ever accept a reduced bid or lose the player for nothing next year.

Janmaat is a right-sided defender and has been linked with Arsenal given the uncertainty regarding the future of Bacary Sagna at the Emirates Stadium. Sagna will become a free agent this summer if he does not agree a new deal and, as of yet, the Frenchman has provided no clear indication that he will stay.

The Arsenal manager has maintained his desire to retain the services of Sagna, particularly given his versatility to place across the backline, and the club are reported to have broken protocol and offered the 31-year-old a three-year deal.

Arsenal would normally only offer a one-year extension to players aged 30 and over, but this supposed proposal to Sagna reinforces the high regard in which he is held by Wenger.
