Manchester United and Arsenal sent scouts to watch Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho this weekend, according to Portuguese newspaper Record

The scouts were present as the midfielder played the full 90 minutes as Sporting Lisbon beat  Gil Vicente 2-0 yesterday.

If reports are to be believed, La Liga duo Real Madrid and Malaga also watched the highly rated midfielder, who has been rated at £37 million.

Carvalho has been the subject of interest from Manchester United for some time now, with reports last month indicating that a deal had been agreed between the Red Devils and the star

However, it now appears that Manchester United's Premier League rivals Arsenal are ready to battle David Moyes' side for the player's signature.

Manchester United have been heavily tipped to spend this summer, with midfield additions appearing a priority for Moyes.

It remains to be seen as to whether the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal step up in their pursuit of Carvalho in the coming months.
