They need: A central midfielder
Strangely, despite not having spent big in any of the recent transfer windows, this isn't exactly a pressing need. Steven Gerrard's advancing years mean that at some point soon the Reds will need to acquire a central midfielder who is capable of filling his massive boots once he's gone, and so they may as well start looking now.
Ideal candidate must have:
A large amount of potential and the willingness to learn on the job with a view to taking over from Gerrard eventually. Brendan Rodgers will be looking for a midfielder who is the complete package in terms of being comfortable moving forward and just as influential when protecting his back four.
Ideal candidate: Ross Barkley
He may be at their arch-rivals, but Ross Barkley is a dream capture for Rodgers. If Liverpool win the league he could be tempted to continue his development in the other half of Merseyside.
Chances of landing him: 5/10
