Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi could be on his way to Atletico Madrid in the summer, according to his agent.

The 21-year-old only joined the Serie A club from Sampdoria in the summer, but his burgeoning reputation means he could soon be on his way to Spain.

Both Tottenham and Atletico Madrid have been linked with the Argentinian-born forward, however it is the latter who now appear favourites for his signature - although his agent Ulisse Savini insists that he could still stay put with Inter.

"Mauro is perfect for Spanish football. Atletico? He could go to Madrid, but I think he will stay with Inter," Savini said.

"The rumours linking him with Atletico are along the right lines, but they are not concrete."

Icardi has eight goals in 18 appearances for Inter Milan so far this season - with his latest strikes coming against his former club in a fiery encounter on Sunday.

The striker bagged a brace in a game billed as the 'Wanda derby' due to Icardi's relationship with former best friend and Sampdoria player Maxi Lopez's wife.

Previous reports have suggested Tottenham were looking at make a move for the young striker to bolster their forward unit in the summer.

They can only currently call upon Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado to lead the line, with youngster Harry Kane providing back up.

Previously Spurs have been linked with Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku and Aston Villa's Christian Benteke - although a move for the latter could be off after he suffered a season-ending injury earlier this month.

Tottenham currently sit in 7th place in the Premier League with four games of the season remaining.
