Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that continued speculation over his own future has not stopped the club beginning work in earnest to secure top transfer targets, telling the Daily Mail that they are spending time every day on identifying future Gunners stars.

Wenger has still not put pen to paper on a new deal, leaving the door open for his 17-year Arsenal tenure to potentially end at the close of the campaign.

The Frenchman has rejected any notion that his decision to delay that announcement means his future should be in doubt, telling reporters that he has begun work on this summer's recruitment policy that will continue right through to the close season.

He told the Daily Mail: "We do spend time on next season, we are really focused and working very hard.

"Every day we spend time on that."

Bundesliga trio Julian Draxler, Josip Drmic and Lars Bender are all stars who have been linked with a switch to the Emirates ahead of next season, but securing Champions League football is surely key to any transfer policy currently being formulated by Wenger and chief executive Ivan Gazidis.

The Gunners are currently in a fierce fight with Everton for the final Champions League place, which continues this evening as Wenger's men host West Ham United in a London derby at the Emirates Stadium.
