Manchester United should be aiming for a higher calibre of player than Alex Song, who was a fairly unspectacular player at Arsenal and has proved to be out of his depth at the Camp Nou.

The Cameroon international linked up to good effect with United’s current striker Robin van Persie at the Emirates Stadium, but the fact that the Red Devils are a more fluid team without the Dutchman should be enough to convince David Moyes to look for another, better central midfield option.

Reports claim that Manchester United have already wrapped up a deal for Sporting Lisbon ace William Carvalho, while Bayern Munich star Toni Kroos could follow. These two would be superb acquisitions, Song less so.
