In January 2012 visited 'noisy neighbours' Manchester City in the third round of the FA Cup, and there was a surprise name among the substitutes.

United were suffering somewhat of an injury crisis and Alex Ferguson persuaded Scholes to come out of retirement to help their cause. He came on after an hour for his second debut as United ran out 3-2 winners.

Man City went on to win the Premier League crown that year, but Scholes won his eleventh Premier League winners medal the following season as he retired for the second and final time.
