Manchester United ace Phil Jones has thanked Nemanja Vidic for helping him settle into life at Old Trafford ahead of the Serbian international's departure from the Premier League champions.

Jones is expected to fill the void left by Manchester United's captain next season - as David Moyes has revealed he wants to give his current centre-backs a chance to impress.

However despite the fact the England international will benefit from Vidic's departure - Jones has admitted he will be saddened to see the 32-year-old leave the club.

"He has been a massive part of my development at Manchester United," said Jones on his official Facebook page.

"He has been a big influence on my career here. He has helped me along the way. He has been a great teacher and is someone I admire and look up to.

"I wish him all the best wherever his future lies."

Vidic will join Serie A outfit Inter Milan at the end of the season on a free transfer after deciding he wants a fresh challenge away from Old Trafford.

The veteran defender is among a long list of players expected to leave Manchester United in the summer as Moyes is planning to reshuffle his faltering squad.

Jones could line up alongside Vidic in the heart of defence between now and the end of the season - before having to wish the former Spartak Moscow man a fond farewell.
