Liverpool and Manchester City have been dealt a blow in their alleged pursuit of Keita Balde Diao as the Lazio forward verges on signing a new contract at Stadio Olimpico.

TalkSPORT reports how the 19-year-old has attracted interest from the Premier League after an impressive debut season in Serie 'A'.

Diao has scored four goals and provided two assists in 20 first-team appearances in 2013/14.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be keen on the talented teenager, and has weighed up the possibility of an attempt to lure the player to Anfield where he could continue his development learning from the likes of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

Manuel Pellegrini has also been mooted as an admirer of Diao, and despite his wealth of attacking talent at the Etihad Stadium has also considered an attempt to make him a Manchester City player.

However, according to Diao's agent Ulisse Savini, the player has sights solely set on penning renewed terms with Lazio which will keep him contracted in Italy until 2018.

"We are very close, I see no difficulty," he said in an interview with Radio Mana Mana. "We need to fix the little things, but in reality it is just bureaucracy.

"The renewal will be signed after Easter, the deal was never in doubt, it was always very smooth."
