Manchester United have approached Jose Mourinho with a view to appointing the Chelsea manager as David Moyes' successor - and the Portuguese coach is considering his options.

This report comes courtesy of respected Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, who claims Mourinho has not ruled out the possibility of making a shock summer switch to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Moyes, who lasted less than a season in charge of the reigning Premier League champions, earlier today. Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal is currently the overwhelming favourite to become United's next permanent manager, while Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has ruled himself out of contention.

However, Di Marzio claims that Klopp might be interested in taking the job in the summer of 2015, whereas Van Gaal is prepared to make the move now after turning down Tottenham.

Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes has a track record of dealing with Manchester United, and it's believed that any contact would be made through the Portuguese.

Could Mourinho really make the switch from Chelsea to Manchester United this summer? Have your say in the comments section below!
