The Utah Jazz are considering making NBA history as they look to replace departed head coach Tyrone Corbin.

According to ESPN reporter Marc Stein the shortlist of potential candidates includes Italian coach Ettore Messina, who is currently in charge of Euro Basket's CSKA Moscow.

If the 54-year old was to secure the role, he would become the first European head coach in the history of the NBA.

And, if Stein is to be believed, Messina already has his heart set on the league:

"Word in Europe all season has been that Messina, once he's down with CSKA Moscow's current campaign, wants to make the jump to the NBA," he wrote on Twitter Tuesday.

Messina has previously worked in the NBA as an assistant coach with the LA Lakers during the 2011-2012 season and was reportedly interviewed for the Atlanta Hawks top job last summer.

In Europe meanwhile, he has found great success in European basketball - winning four Euroleague titles between 1998 and 2008.

As such, he is one of the most highly respected coaches currently working on the continent but it would still take a brave NBA organization to offer him a head coaching role next campaign.
