Albert Pujols joins the 500 club with the LA Angels

Albert Pujols has joined the 500 club tonight by hitting the 499th and 500th home runs of his career against the Washington Nationals.

Pujols becomes the 26th player in major league history to join the prestigious club, joining greats such as Barry Bonds, Willie Mays and Babe Ruth.

He is one of only two players who have achieved which are still active players with Alex Rodriguez still playing for the New York Yankees.

Pujols is also, according to Baseball statistic collators STATS, the only person to hit the 500 club by scoring both the big run and the penultimate 499th run in the same game.

The LA Angels star hit his first out of the left field in the start of the game against the Nationals before scoring a two one homer to hit the milestone.

Pujols currently sits 26th in the list of all time HR hitters with Rodriguez 5th in the all time list with 654 and Barry Bonds top with 762
