Washington Redskins quarterback, Robert Griffin III may not have had the best of seasons in 2013 as he struggled to return from a severe knee injury, but he is ready to show the return of that famous speed in 2014.

In fact his speed is so famous that it is even going to be exhibited at a NASCAR event in Richmond on Saturday night, where RGIII will be driving the pace car.

The Redskins have strong ties with the stock car racing competition with legendary former coach, Joe Gibbs now being an owner with one of the teams.

However, ProFootballTalk reports that Griffin's entrance to the game was formed by a much more recent connection.

"NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt Jr., a Redskins fan, invited him to the track via Twitter, and the two made the connection." PFT reports.

RGIII is a very prominent figure on the social networking site with over one million followers. The passer even reached out on twitter to Earnhardt to thank him for the chance to be involved in the event:

"Honored to have the opportunity brother DaleJr... See y'all soon!!!"

Redskins fans will be hoping that Griffin can replicate Earnhardt's speed on the football field in 2014.
