Chelsea have discussed the possibility of making a move for Real Madrid stars Karim Benzema and Angel di Maria this summer.

While Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa remains Mourinho’s main transfer target, the Daily Mail report that the Blues’ boss has spoken with officials at Stamford Bridge about the idea of bringing the Real Madrid duo to west London over the course of the next few months.

It’s unclear how interested Chelsea are at this stage, or whether Benzema and Di Maria would be open to the idea of teaming up with Carlo Ancelotti’s predecessor again.

Mourinho endured a strained relationship with the majority of his players in the final months of his Real Madrid tenure - and the fact that both Benzema and Di Maria have flourished at the Bernabeu this season means the chances of a deal happening appear remote.

But, if Ancelotti is dismissed from his post at the end of the season, the situation could change.

Likewise, if Real Madrid spend big on a new striker and a new midfielder. Liverpool star Luis Suarez has been linked with Los Blancos in recent days, while the possibility of the Spanish giants agreeing to sell Benzema in order to generate funds to purchase the Premier League’s top goalscorer has also been reported.

Benzema scored his 24th goal of the season last night, to secure Real Madrid a precious 1-0 victory in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final against Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich.

Di Maria, meanwhile, has scored 11 goals in 46 appearances this season after reinventing himself in a central role under Ancelotti’s management.
